‘Tis the season for delicious peaches, straight from the beautiful south. I love cooking with in-season fruit, especially strawberries and peaches.
I experimented with a peach pie recipe last week and the results were favorable. Between my husband and my kids, it was gone in 1 day. I was able to make this pie free of almost all top allergens & gluten, as well as corn. My daughter, who has no food allergies, was so excited about what allergens were not in it that she was telling all her neighborhood friends. That made me happy. Perhaps she will become a great allergy-friendly chef one day.
This “pie” turned out to be more like a crisp, than a pie though. It didn’t change the flavor, but it wasn’t this perfect photographic slice of pie. You have to give somewhere when making a lot of allergy changes, but taste is not negotiable.
Try this recipe for yourself during this peach season and let me know how you liked it.

Peach Pie Crisp
If dairy or soy are allowed in your diet, they would work better for a pie crust texture than the canola oil used in the recipe. Substitute butter or shortening equal amounts for the oil.
Ingredients
- 1 cups almond meal/flour
- 5 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 1/4 cups rice krispies
- 1/2 cups canola oil
- 2/3 cups brown sugar
- 1/3 cups arrowroot flour/powder
- 1/4 teaspoons cinnamon, ground
- 6-8 peaches
- 1 teaspoons lemon juice
Instructions
Pie Crust: With a fork, mix together 1 cup almond flour, 5 Tbsp powdered sugar, 1/4 cup rice krispies (find allowed brand); slowly "fork" in 1/2 cup canola oil until crumbly. Press 1/2-2/3 pie crust into pie dish; set aside remaining crust.
Peach Pie Filling: In a bowl, mix together brown sugar, arrowroot powder & cinnamon. Stir in sliced peaches and lemon juice.
Turn peach pie filling into pie crust. (If butter allowed/desired, cut small pats on top of peaches.) Sprinkle remaining crust evenly on top of pie filling.
Bake at 350degrees for 30-40 minutes or until browned.
