21 Days to a More Discipline Life: Day 1

{Disclaimer: Not everything in my life is about food allergies.  I trust you’ll enjoy “watching” another part of my life unfold and I hope you’ll join me!}

Well, let’s see! I’m not sure how this challenge is going to look on here yet.  I’m linking up with a couple other blogs who are hosting the challenge, Serving Joyfully and Super Sweet Life.  I’m not sure if I’ll do a quick update each day on a post or if I’ll update on Facebook or what.  I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see how it goes.

Anyway, I hope you’ll join me.  If you have not picked up Crystal Paine’s new book 21 Days to a More Disciplined Life, I highly recommend you do so.  It’s a great book and really gives you the kick you need to get started.  You can read my full review of the book here.

Now, I know ya’ll are wondering what this has to do with food allergies.  The way I see it, you may need to get some things straightened out in your food allergy life, whether it’s eating better or budgeting better or completely avoiding potential for cross-contamination or whatever.  This challenge can be applied to absolutely any aspect of your life.

My Challenges: Day 1

There are so many areas in which I can use more discipline.  I’ve really been thinking through all of them over the past week and have narrowed it down to a couple things that I know will make the biggest difference right now.  I’m going to do my best not to jump in too deep by taking on too much too soon.

The cool thing about this book is that you do a daily practical “small” task, then you pick a Mega Project to tackle over the next 21 days.

My Practical Application is getting up 15 minutes earlier every morning.  People, this is a hard thing for me and it should probably be put under the “mega project” category.  I am constantly convicted about not being a morning person and spending too much of my morning on here…ahem…this bright screen with type-y keys under my fingers, instead of being with my daughter who is home for her last year before going to school.  If I am able to get up 15 minutes earlier than normal, I can actually get a number of things accomplished.  I’ve actually already started this assignment this week and it’s going well!

Now, I have to tell you that this small task doesn’t really fall under the practical application assignment that Crystal gives, but it allows me more time to do something under that category, like read to my daughter or get the morning blogging work done sooner and quicker.

As far as that Mega Project, wow!, I can think of so many things to tackle, but there is a single project that has really been on my mind and I need to get it accomplished.  Perhaps making me focus on it daily will give me the push I need to get it done.  What is it, you ask?

Complete the 1st Draft of My Ebook!!!

Day 1 Mega Project Assignment is to break it down into 21 steps, then do Day 1.  This post is already too long, so I won’t post the 21 day breakdown yet, but I’ll try to do that another day so that you can all keep me accountable.  For today though, I’m going to complete (I have a head start) the organization of myriad of topics into categories (i.e., chapters).

    I would love to join the challenge, but i havnt been able to buy the book due to finances. It looks like a wonderful opportunity you are sharing.

    Oh, Michelle, you can do it! I really wish I was a better morning person, too, so this would be a good one for me. I will consider joining you on this journey. I’m just stretched thin with homeschooling/parenting right now, and I’m somewhat afraid to commit. But maybe it’s just what I need 🙂 I haven’t read Crystal’s new book yet, but I popped over to your review and it looks like a great read. I’m so proud of you, my friend!

      Thanks for your support! You know, at this time in your life (in all of our lives), we pick and choose what works best for us. Sure, I’d like to commit to getting up even earlier, but I know that I would be setting myself up for failure. Pick something else, something small. I know you can do it!

      One more thing. I don’t think Crystal would mind me sharing this quote. Here is what she says about choosing a practical application: “Choose one simple thing that you can change today. Follow through with your change for the next week. Remember, keep it simple and just stick with one thing for now (like where you put your purse) – even if you have a hundred things screaming for change.” It makes complete sense and steps forward, even small ones, get us to where we want to be 🙂

    Yay, your book! That is great!
    I too am not a morning person and think I should get up earlier, but more like 30-45 minutes. Every time I try to get up when I think I should, something happens to make it extra difficult, like not getting to sleep until very late. I haven’t been able to completely convince myself that this must mean God wants me to sleep longer. 😉 So maybe I will start with 15 minutes & go from there. Mega projects — where to start? Continue purging clutter at home, maybe then I can think more clearly and accomplish another big task. 🙂

      I could have said the same thing you did about getting up early. Because I have failed with the “big” time bump (I mean, we’re talking a whopping 30-45 mins), I decided I should be more practical and just go with 15. I am able to get a few things done and it’s been helping.
